Denmark (DK1): the live status of western Denmark's electricity grid
Denmark pioneered modern wind power, and its western grid - DK1, covering Jutland and Funen - now regularly generates more electricity from wind than it consumes in total. This page covers DK1 specifically because that's where Viking Link, Denmark's only direct interconnector to Great Britain, comes ashore; DK1 is also part of the Continental Europe synchronous area, unlike eastern Denmark's DK2, which is Nordic-synchronous. Demand, generation, day-ahead price and generation mix below are live from the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform.

About the Denmark grid
Energinet operates Denmark's transmission grid, split into two non-synchronous halves: DK1 (Jutland and Funen, in the west, part of the Continental Europe synchronous area) and DK2 (Zealand, including Copenhagen, part of the Nordic synchronous area). Denmark built the world's first modern offshore wind farm, Vindeby, in 1991, and has kept expanding both onshore and offshore capacity ever since - DK1 alone now has enough wind capacity to exceed its own demand on a windy day, exporting the surplus across its many interconnectors to Norway, Sweden and Germany.
District heating combined-heat-and-power (CHP) plants, increasingly burning biomass and waste rather than coal, provide a flexible complement to wind's variability, alongside a fast-growing solar fleet. Viking Link, which began commercial operation in Boxing Day 2023, gave DK1 its first direct electrical link to Great Britain - at roughly 765km of combined subsea and underground cable, it's the longest interconnector of its kind in the world.

The Elexon Insights Solution, NESO Data Portal and Carbon Intensity API that power the Great Britain pages are GB-specific and don't cover Denmark (DK1), so this page draws on a different source instead:
- ENTSO-E Transparency Platform - the pan-European grid data hub, required by EU regulation for every connected TSO (RTE included) to publish to. Powers demand, generation, day-ahead price, the generation mix, the 24-hour mix chart and the History section above, all via Denmark (DK1)'s own bidding zone. Requires the site operator's own free API token, obtained through a short registration process - shows "not enough recorded history yet" rather than a placeholder figure if one isn't set or ingestion hasn't run yet.
Two figures aren't shown on this page at all: ENTSO-E doesn't publish emissions intensity, and its generation-per-type data doesn't include cross-border physical flow per interconnector (Viking Link), so rather than show a permanently illustrative placeholder for either, they're left out until a real source exists.
