Spain: the live status of the Spanish electricity grid
Spain's grid, operated by Red Eléctrica (REE), has one of the highest wind and solar shares of any major European grid, backed by significant hydro and a shrinking nuclear fleet. It's connected to the rest of Continental Europe mainly through France, with a much smaller link to Portugal and Morocco. It isn't physically interconnected to Great Britain, so it's included here for comparison rather than as one of GB's own interconnector partners. Demand, generation, day-ahead price and generation mix below are live from the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform.

About the French grid
Red Eléctrica de España (REE) operates Spain's transmission grid, part of the Iberian bidding zone (shared trading arrangements with Portugal) inside the Continental Europe synchronous area. Spain has built one of Europe's largest wind and solar fleets, complemented by hydro, a shrinking nuclear fleet and gas for flexible backup - giving it some of the highest renewable-generation shares of any large European grid on sunny, windy days.
Spain's main interconnection to the rest of Continental Europe runs through France, with smaller links to Portugal and (via a subsea HVDC cable) Morocco. It has no direct electrical interconnector with Great Britain, and is included on this site purely for cross-country comparison via the Comparisons page.

Data sources for Spain
The Elexon Insights Solution, NESO Data Portal and Carbon Intensity API that power the Great Britain pages are GB-specific and don't cover Spain, so this page draws on a different source instead:
- ENTSO-E Transparency Platform - the pan-European grid data hub, required by EU regulation for every connected transmission system operator to publish to. Powers demand, generation, day-ahead price, the generation mix, the 24-hour mix chart and the History section above, all via Spain's own bidding zone. Requires the site operator's own free API token, obtained through a short registration process - shows "not enough recorded history yet" rather than a placeholder figure if one isn't set or ingestion hasn't run yet.
Two figures aren't shown on this page at all: ENTSO-E doesn't publish emissions intensity (g/kWh), and its generation-per-type data doesn't include cross-border physical flow, so rather than show a permanently illustrative placeholder for either, they're left out until a real source exists.
