The Netherlands: the live status of the Dutch electricity grid
The Netherlands runs a compact, densely-interconnected grid at the heart of north-west Europe's electricity market, operated by TenneT. It's shifting fast from a gas-dominated mix towards offshore wind and solar - the Dutch North Sea is filling with turbines, and the country has one of the highest rates of solar capacity per person in the world. It connects to Great Britain through BritNed, a subsea interconnector to the Isle of Grain in Kent. About the Netherlands grid
TenneT operates both the Dutch and a large part of the German transmission grid, part of the Continental Europe synchronous area. The Netherlands has leaned hard into offshore wind over the past decade - the Hollandse Kust wind farms alone add several gigawatts of capacity - while also building out one of the world's highest concentrations of rooftop and utility-scale solar per person, helped by a flat, densely-built landscape and strong government incentives.
Borssele, the country's only remaining nuclear plant, supplies a small but steady share of demand and is slated for a life extension alongside plans for new reactors. Gas still plays a large balancing role - the Netherlands sits on what was once Europe's largest gas field, Groningen (now closed for production due to induced earthquakes) - but its generation share has been falling steadily as renewables scale up. BritNed, opened in 2011, was one of the first big subsea interconnectors of the modern era and remains the Netherlands' only direct electrical link to Great Britain.

The Elexon Insights Solution, NESO Data Portal and Carbon Intensity API that power the Great Britain pages are GB-specific and don't cover the Netherlands, so this page draws on a different source instead:
- ENTSO-E Transparency Platform - the pan-European grid data hub, required by EU regulation for every connected TSO (RTE included) to publish to. Powers demand, generation, day-ahead price, the generation mix, the 24-hour mix chart and the History section above, all via Netherlands's own bidding zone. Requires the site operator's own free API token, obtained through a short registration process - shows "not enough recorded history yet" rather than a placeholder figure if one isn't set or ingestion hasn't run yet.
Two figures aren't shown on this page at all: ENTSO-E doesn't publish emissions intensity, and its generation-per-type data doesn't include cross-border physical flow per interconnector (BritNed), so rather than show a permanently illustrative placeholder for either, they're left out until a real source exists.
